This evening, followers of Sayyid Ibraheem Zakzaky, known as the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), expressed their concern and distanced themselves from a letter previously written by their lawyers seeking permission and inviting security forces to provide protection during their Arbaeen procession. They described the letter as merely the opinion of the lawyers.

The movement made this clarification in a press statement signed by one of Zakzaky's disciples, Sidi Munnir Sokoto, and sent to journalists.

Sidi Munnir emphasized that Nigerian security forces, known for oppressing the weak and failing to address security challenges, cannot be trusted to protect their religious activities.

“The annual Arbaeen procession is a religious event observed worldwide to commemorate the martyrdom of the Prophet Muhammad's (SAW) grandson, who was martyred along with his family and companions in Karbala approximately 1,400 years ago. People from various backgrounds participate in the Imam Husain (AS) procession as an act of devotion.

“We are engaging in religious practices, so seeking approval or protection from security forces is unnecessary. Moreover, it is widely known that the Islamic Movement has consistently conducted this annual event peacefully and orderly, making the presence of security forces irrelevant to us,” he stated.

Earlier, Sahara Reporters Hausa reported that a letter had been submitted to security agencies seeking permission and protection for members of the Islamic Movement to safely perform their religious duties.
